Kat awoke, slowly opening her eyes and focusing on the ceiling. She lay still, gathering her thoughts and attempting to get her bearings, but she had no idea where she was. The last thing she remembered was Peter, the smelly satyr, taking the caduceus and hitting her on the head.

She groaned, her temples pounding, her back feeling bruised as she lay on the thin mattress. She’d been knocked out by Hermes’ staff three times now. This must’ve been what it felt like when no one caught her before she hit the ground. She needed to have words with Deirdre about her choice in men. Sure, it was Nick’s friend who did it, but having friends like that didn’t say much about his character.

“Morning, sunshine,” a male said before hooves clomped on the wooden floor. “How's your head?”

Kat sat up, squeezing her eyes shut as the room spun. When she opened them, she found a satyr standing by the bed. He wore jeans over his goat legs, and his upper body was bare, revealing a light sprinkling of ginger hair across his pale chest. His horns barely protruded from his curly hair, which meant he was maybe thirty years old—the equivalent of a teen for his species—and hopefully inexperienced.

Kat could take him, but first she needed to figure out what else she might be up against. “Where am I?” She swung her legs over the side of the bed, resting her feet on the floor.

“You're in my house.” The satyr sat down next to her. “My name’s Jake.” He offered his hand to shake, but Kat scooted away.

“What am I doing here?”

“You're being held captive in the game.” Jake looked at her like she was crazy…like it was something she was supposed to already know. “Pan said to keep you here until he’s done taunting Hermes.”

“Pan?” Kat scratched her head and winced when she hit a bruise. “As in the god Pan?” Why on earth would Pan be taunting Hermes? A few days ago, she’d have dismissed the satyr’s claim as total BS, but now that she knew the Olympians were in New Orleans, the god of the wild being here too didn’t seem so far-fetched.

“There's our Sleeping Beauty.” Another satyr came into the room, carrying a tray. “I made you some oatmeal.” He grinned and set it on a table by the bed. “I'm Giorgio.”

This guy had umber skin, dark brown eyes, and his horns weren’t much longer than Jake’s. If the great god Pan thought two juvenile satyrs could hold her prisoner, he was sorely mistaken. Surely a deity wouldn't be so dumb.

Peter was probably sitting in the living room. His thick horns coiled like a ram’s, which meant he’d been around the block a time or two…hundred. That might throw a wrench into her escape plan, whenever she figured out what the plan would be.

She leaned to the side, gazing out the open bedroom door. “Pan set the three of you up to kidnap me?”

Jake looked at Giorgio and shrugged.
